Meet Your Tutor
A Systematic Approach to Learning and Test Preparation
I was a C-minus student in math on my best day. Throughout elementary and middle school, it was the one subject that never clicked, no matter how hard I tried. On a grading scale where 75% and higher was an “A,” my goal was to get an “A” in math at least once in my lifetime (for bragging rights with my friends). So, in 9th grade, I asked my parents for a private tutor. They agreed. For the next four weeks, I worked with a math tutor for three hours a day, six days a week. On my 9th-grade math final exam, which soon followed, I didn’t just get an “A” — I scored 100%. That experience shook the foundation of my beliefs about learning math and instilled in me a level of confidence that I could not have previously imagined. It is why I tutor.
I bring an unusual mix of training to that work. I hold an M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering, and a J.D. in Law, with active legal licensure. I started in the Indian CBSE system in the UAE, where I was the top regional scorer on highly competitive board exams. I then completed my London A-Levels with straight “A”s before enrolling in Computer Systems Engineering at Loughborough University in the UK. I subsequently earned a full scholarship to the University of Arizona, where I completed the remainder of my studies in engineering and law.
I began tutoring math and physics during my freshman year at the University of Arizona, where math placement testing placed me in Vector Calculus (Calculus III). Having learned and taught across the Indian, British, and American systems, I’ve seen students get stuck for the same reasons—and I’ve learned how to spot and fix those issues quickly.
Professionally, I’ve worked as a college lecturer, a software engineer in the aerospace and semiconductor industries, and a lawyer. After nearly two decades of working part-time on platforms like Varsity Tutors and Wyzant, I’m delighted to make teaching my full-time calling. My passion is reflected in what I teach: math from arithmetic through calculus, and test preparation for the SAT, ACT, ASVAB, and GED.
I also work with law students on CREAC/IRAC structure, legal writing, and exam preparation, drawing on my experience in courtroom advocacy and mock trial. I’ve won numerous competitions in public speaking and writing from elementary school through law school—at the school, state, regional, and national levels—and I bring that same focus on clarity, structure, and persuasion to every essay, personal statement, or speech I help a student write.
None of that is what students and parents mention first, though. What they tell me is that I’m patient, I adapt quickly to how they actually learn, and I care about their success. Most of the students who come to me are frustrated or discouraged after struggling elsewhere. My job is to rebuild their understanding and their confidence — one session at a time.
In Their Words
"Firstly, I don't usually write things like this but I truly can't explain how grateful I am. This past semester in Fall, I began to seriously doubt my ability to get through college as a business/accounting major due to not being able to get through calculus. After 4 years had passed since I last took College Algebra (MAT 151), I attempted Calc 1 and its applications a year ago. I dropped it immediately. Coming to a deadline last semester, I needed it. I attempted it with failing scores, almost 2 months in. I decided I desperately needed a tutor. I had multiple tutors tell me they couldn't help me due to my lack of knowledge with algebra. After searching further, losing hope, I contacted Hanees. He not only taught me algebra all the way over again, but he then proceeded to walk me through every single step in Calculus. I finished this class with an A... I am still in disbelief, and this post still doesn't do the justice it should. Hanees made me feel confident with my math skills again. Thank you kindly."
